This charming small hotel is housed in a 15th century
palazzo, once a Franciscan monastery.
Sympathetic restoration of the building has successfully
established perfect harmony between the ancient structure
and the functional requirements of a modern hotel. The Hotel
Pironi today boasts a blend of original frescoes, antiques,
vaulted ceilings, medieval stone columns and examples of
modern furnishing.
The impeccable and discreet service combined with the magic
of the building itself make the Hotel Pironi the ideal

Welcome on the Lake Maggiore, the most westerly of the three large
prealpine lakes of Italy and the second largest after Lake Garda.
The western bank is in Piedmont and the eastern in Lombardy, whereas
the most northerly section extends thirteen kilometres into
Switzerland.
For walkers there are well marked paths which lead up into a
hinterland of scenic mountain hikes and remote villages facing the
Lake: Val Formazza, with its Toce Falls, Val Vigezzo, nicknamed "the
painter's valley", Valle Anzasca, which peaks with the Walser
habitat of Macugnaga, and Valle Antrona, which boasts fascinating
alpine tarns. The Val Grande Natural Park, the most extensive wild
area in central Europe, is set in the upper part of the lake.
The lake is also famous for the Borromean Islands, which dwell the
gulf facing Stresa: Isola Bella, known for the big baroque building
and the splendid terraced garden; Isola Madre, the largest among the
Borromeo Islands with its botanical garden rich of camellias,
azaleas, rhododendrons and age-old trees; Isola Pescatori, which
hosts a picturesque village still inhabited.
The nearby Lake Orta is an ideal starting point to visit the
characteristic village of Orta and the enchanting San Giulio Island.
Going northwarths there is Verbania, colourful city full of shops
which hosts the botanical gardens of Villa Taranto and Villa San
Remigio.
Cannobio is located on the shores of the spectacular western end of
the lake. It has made a particular point of retaining intact most of
its natural, historical and architectural heritage which includes
Roman remains, Medieval art and 18th century architecture.
The town is a good starting point for excursions to the natural
attraction called "Orrido di Sant'Anna" (a deep gorge cut into the
rock by the waters of the river) and the Cannobina Valley.
Accommodation is widely available, with the visitors able to choose
from any number of hotels of all categories, apartments, bed &
breakfast and campsites.
There are numerous sports facilities available, such as tennis
courts and cycle and mountain bike tracks. Cannobio has its own Lido
at the north end of town with a large sandy beach, and the waters
offshore are renowed for sailing, windsurfing and kitesurfing.
The lake offers another activity that can be practised on the hills,
in touch with nature, that is golf. In this magnificent scenary,
international architects have realized exciting and high-quality
fields: the Golf Club Patriziale of Ascona, the Golf Gerre of Losone
and the Golf Club des Iles Borromees in Stresa.
The Canton Ticino in Switzerland boasts cities of artistic and
cultural heritage: Ascona, famous for the Ascona Jazz Festival;
Locarno, known for its old city, the International Film Festival (one
of the top events of Switzerland), and the International camellias
exhibit; Bellinzona, with its medieval castles. In the Verzasca,
Maggia and Centovalli valleys there are many fascinating paths and
excursions to undertake.
Lovers of shopping will enjoy the traditional colourful market in
Cannobio. Well known are also the markets in Luino and Verbania.
The area boasts also several outlets such as Fox town in Mendrisio
and Alessi in Omegna.
